WOW! Your support of the Box Top Blitz has been wonderful!! Thank you for supporting our school and the PTO!

100 Book Challenge: Once again, thank you for your help with the success of this program! The children are reading up a storm! We are not missing ANY BOOKS!!

Homework:
Please continue to review High Frequency words for first grade. Look for your child’s Skills Card in the reading folder this week. Please return them daily.

READING: Thank you for your help with the 100 Book Challenge Program! We have worked hard on building up our stamina in class. As you can see from your child’s log, we are sometimes earning 2 steps a day in class for “Read to Someone” and “Read to Self!” Please be sure to read for at least 15 minutes each night, and continue to review your high frequency words.

Math homework will go home on Tuesday and Thursday of this week! In addition to the sheets that go home, please work on adding facts +0, +1, +2, +3, and double facts such as (2+2, 5+5, 7+7, 10+10).

Thank you to McKenzie’s family for sending in batteries, too!

Language Arts: We have enjoyed reading different types of fiction, and we are classifying stories as “realistic fiction” or “fantasy.” We’ll be reading some of both and writing “fantasy” stories of our own. We are focusing on characters and settings, and we have learned about “problems” and “solutions.” We’re learning more about short and long vowel sounds and practicing spelling our high frequency words more consistently.

Math: We’ll continue to work with pennies and nickels, and patterns in counting. We are doing a fantastic job with adding by counting up! We will continue Rocket Math this week! (More information on that program will go home this week.) We’ll use the number line and other strategies to solve number stories with adding and subtracting.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn geography by following my sister, “The Traveling Teacher,” as she travels through Asia.

As we begin November, we will learn about farms. This unit will combine standards from all academic areas!
