100 Book Challenge: Please sit with your child as he or she reads, so you can see how well the reading matches the text. Refer to your child’s Skills Card for words and sounds to review. Look over the strategies to see the language we are using in our classroom. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. 

Homework: Every day, please take time to review the kindergarten high frequency words and first grade words. Our goal is to be able to read these words at first sight, and spell them correctly in our day to day writing.

READING: Every day, please listen to your child read for 15 minutes, with a timer. Be sure to write ONE title on your child’s reading log and initial it.
MATH: Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Language Arts: In reading, we’re learning how to find the main idea of informational text and stories. We’re learning how to find DETAILS in the text. We’re also learning more about endings such as –ing, -ed, and –s. In writing, we are going to begin using our Writing Dictionaries to help us check those high frequency words. We’re going to focus more on handwriting, paying closer attention to how letters sit on lines.

Math: We’re looking at the relationship of addition and subtraction. It’s tricky, but we’re learning that 7=3+4 is the same as 3+4=7. We’ll begin working with ten frames in Topic 3 midweek.
