REMINDERS:
Library day is FRIDAY!

We really enjoyed the visit from the Korean Children’s choir on Monday! It was interesting to see children who are different from us, yet so alike! We were fortunate to receive a special visit from them in our classroom after lunch. We sang together! Please ask your child about this wonderful experience.

EMGames Online: Your child brought home a card with directions how to access Every Day Mathematics games from any computer with internet access. I hope you have had the chance to visit this site! Remember, you can go to the public library for internet access if you do not have it at home.

PTO news: Look over the information about our new SCRIP Fundraising! It is an easy way to raise money for our school. Thank you for your tremendous participation in our BOX TOP BLITZ! Thank you for sending these and other labels in. Our PTO is so supportive of our school! 

Homework:
1. This week’s high frequency words are: who, where, why, how, will, do, does, can’t, I’ll, about Please work on reading them at first sight.
If your child can easily recognize them for reading, begin practicing the spelling of these words.
2. READING: Thank you for your help with the 100 Book Challenge Books! We are missing one book, titled Ff. It has a Y sticker on it. Otherwise, the children have been terrific at keeping up with taking home so many books! As always, please read with your child for 15 minutes, with a timer. We are working on building up the amount of time that the children can read independently. These 100 Book Challenge books should be easy for your child to read. You may read personal books or library books for the rest of the 15 minutes.
3. Math homework will go home on Tuesday and Thursday of this week!

Language Arts: We will continue to work on letter sounds, especially short vowel sounds, & letter formation. We are working on spelling words, writing sentences with spacing between words, and including periods at the end of sentences. We are learning how to brainstorm for ideas and organize our thoughts for writing. We are focusing on using our fingers to point to the words as we read, using the pictures for clues, and “getting our mouths ready” as we face unknown words. We are reading stories (fiction) and reading for information (non-fiction).

Math: We will work with pennies and nickels, and review telling time to the hour. We’re working on number formation, counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s, and adding by counting up. We’ll be using a number line and other strategies to solve number stories with adding and subtracting. We are playing Every Day Math games online, so you will know how to play them at home!

Science: We will continue to study the seasons and months of the year. We’re learning about how the weather changes with the seasons. Ask your child what we have learned about the sun and the earth!

Social Studies: We will learn more about the earth and using a map and a globe. We’re learning the differences between “states,” “countries,” and “continents.”
