HAPPY NEW YEAR and Welcome Back! We have enjoyed sharing some of the events of the past few weeks today. We have 97 busy school days ahead of us in the new year!
WHITE CHRISTMAS FOOD AND MONEY COLLECTION:
Thank you for the tremendous generosity you showed last month! Our class collected 104 food items and $57.70 to help families in our community. School wide, we passed our goal of over 1000 food items!
IMPORTANT DATES:
•Jan. 6~ “Stop, Drop, and Write!” at school and PTO movie night
•Jan. 9~ Winter MAP testing begins
100 Book Challenge: McKenzie read 57 steps between Thanksgiving and December 15th! She was our class winner! Special recognition also goes to Bella, Conner H., Annmarie, Jayden and Braden for earning steps over Christmas Break! We’ve had some more children reach their 100th steps for 25 hours of reading! CONGRATULATIONS to Amy, Conner H., Callie, Kade, and Jayden! Many more are getting closer!
Thank you for continuing to review the skills and strategies on the cards. By now, your child should be able to read for two 15 minute periods at home, or 30 minutes in row.
Language Arts: This week we will be reading and talking about the New Year and winter. With Stop Drop and Write on Friday, we are reviewing good writing habits. We’re talking about topics, details, and CONVENTIONS: spelling, capitalization, punctuation, spacing and handwriting
Math: We will continue to work with “Frames and Arrows,” money, and addition and subtraction patterns.
Social Studies: We will visit the Traveling Teacher’s blog to learn about the lives of three children in Cambodia.
