CLASS CELEBRATION!
Our class has earned $30 in Class Cash, by working together in being Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn! The class voted, and we will be celebrating our good choices in an extra indoor recess Wednesday afternoon. Each child is allowed to bring one game or activity to bring from home to play with during our celebration. The children understand that they are responsible for anything they bring from home, and items are to stay in our backpacks until the celebration. Let me know if you have any questions.

100th Day Celebration: We will celebrate our first 100 days in first grade throughout the day with a variety of activities involving the number 100. If you have any extra stickers, rubber stamps, or art supplies such as googly eyes, pompoms, or craft foam pieces, please send them in! We will also be celebrating with a 100 day snack. If you would be able to send any of the following food items, please let me know: raisins, M&M’s, Froot Loops, mini marshmallows, peanuts, chocolate chips, Cheerios, gummy bears, popcorn and Apple Jacks.PTO News: Thank you for supporting our PTO with Box Tops, Campbell Soup Labels for Education and Coke bottle caps. The Box Top Blitz continues through this month! Our class was in the lead AGAIN last Friday afternoon!

100 Book Challenge: Congratulations to our most recent 100th step earner, Ethan!
HOORAY! Annmarie earned her 200th step over the weekend!! Way to go! Is YOUR child reading for at least 30 minutes at home?

Language Arts: We are continuing to learn the differences in informational text and reading stories. We’re learning more about contractions and compound words and unusual vowel sounds. We are focusing on THINKING more about our reading before, during, and after we read. We’ve been reading BIOGRAPHIES. Ask your child to tell you what they are! And finally, we are really focusing on CONVENTIONS in our writing: spelling, capitalization, punctuation, spacing and handwriting.

Math: We are working on counting combinations of coins, as well as representing amounts in a variety of ways. We’re reviewing telling time to the half hour and adding with speed and accuracy.

Social Studies: We learned about Chinese New Year today and compared our traditions and beliefs with those celebrated today.
