Our public librarians will be here May 23rd and May 24th to speak to our students about the summer reading theme, Dream Big Read, based on the children’s book Bats at the Library. Students will be introduced to upcoming programs & will be bringing home a calendar of events. June 1st is the kickoff party at the Seneca Branch but families may register any time throughout the summer. When they register, they will receive a goodie bag and instructions on how to earn their medal and certificate. There will also be programs for middle school, high school and adults as well! Next week – watch for news about tools our school library will offer to families during the summer! 100 Book Challenge: Hooray! McKenzie and Annmarie have earned their 400th steps! Kade, Jayden, Bella, Sydney, Sam, Jaxton and Josh reached 300 steps! Catherine, Braden and Kimberly earned their 200th, too. As we get closer to the end of the year, it’s super important for your child to read EVERY day at home! High Frequency Word reminder: We have come a long way with spelling! The children have enjoyed having spelling “bees” in the classroom! Please let me know if you would like another copy of these words. Language Arts: We have enjoyed our unit on poetry! We used our research skills to learn about animals, and we used our new knowledge to write cinquain poems! We’ve learned all about nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We are continuing to review syllables, synonyms and antonyms. We are working hard on our spelling of high frequency words! Math: PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD REVIEW DOUBLES FACTS: 2+2 through 10+10. These facts should be memorized by this point in first grade. Please practice the Rocket Math sheets as they go home each day. Congratulations to the following students who have mastered all the facts through Z! Conner H and Kade We’ll review polygons, 3 dimensional shapes, and symmetry with geometry. We’ll continue to work on counting combinations of coins up to $1.00 and telling time to the half hour.
