PTO news: Thank you for joining the PTO and sending in your Ingles’ card numbers. The Box Top Blitz is off to a super start! Thanks for sending in Campbell soup labels and Coke lids, too!

Homework: 1.READING: Please read with your child for 15 minutes, with a timer. Please see the attached letter with ways to support your child in the 100 Book Challenge program. 2.Please begin reviewing the high frequency word list that was sent home today. Our goal is to be able to read these words, at first sight, at all times. Once your child is able to read a word easily, please practice spelling it. Our goal is to be able to read and spell all of these words by the end of first grade!

3.Math homework will go home on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Thanks in advance for your cooperation with homework! Together, we can work together to help your child reach his or her fullest potential!

Language Arts: We will continue to work on short vowel sounds, and we’ve learned some patterns for long vowels. We are working on spelling unknown words by listening for all the sounds in the word, and spelling high frequency words correctly. We’re learning more about nouns and verbs. We’re beginning to write more than one sentence on the same topic. We are focusing on using our fingers to point to the words as we read and strategies to attack unknown words. We are reading stories (fiction) and reading for information (non-fiction). We have almost built up our stamina in class to 15 minutes of Reading Workshop!

Math: In Unit 2, we will learn more strategies to solve problems and explain our strategies. We’ll use our number grids (Hundreds Charts), work with pennies and nickels, and learn complements of 10. Please review numbers that come before and after a given number, up to 100.
