REMINDERS:
Mondays & Wednesdays are PE days.

Please remember to send a small, healthy snack that can be quickly and independently eaten in the afternoons. Sometimes we will continue to work through snack time, so it’s important that you send something that can be eaten neatly.

LIBRARY: Our class will now be going to the school library on Wednesdays. The children will be allowed to check out TWO books this year! We will encourage them to choose one to read to or with you, and one that can be read to them.

PTO news: Thank you to everyone who was able to support out PTO at the Apple Festival! We are also collecting Box Tops, Coke lids and codes from boxes, Campbell Soup labels for Education, and can tabs! Thanks for sending these items in.

Homework:
1.This week, please look over the following “kindergarten” high frequency words. If your child can easily recognize them for reading, go ahead and begin practicing the spelling of these words. Our main goal now is for the children to be able to read them at first sight; spelling will come later. (and, can, come, down, for, go, help, is, it, little ) from last week
PLEASE review these words this week: blue, here, I, in, look, make, not, on, was, you
I will assess the children on reading (or spelling) these words towards the end of the week. 

2.READING: Please read with your child for 15 minutes, with a timer. The children are excited about this new program!

3.Math homework will go home on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Language Arts: We will be reading the classic story, CAPS FOR SALE. Today we read another version, called STACKS OF CAPS. We will compare and contrast the characters and events of the stories. We’ll learn more about the differences between “facts” and “opinions” with monkeys. Additionally, we’ll continue to review: letter sounds & formation, beginning & ending sounds of words, writing sentences with spacing between words and periods at the end. The strategies we’re using to help us grow as readers include using pictures for information, using fingers to track our reading to make sure the words match what we read, and thinking about what MAKES SENSE.

The children are asked to be a variety of hats on Wednesday. We’ll use these hats for retelling the story, writing descriptive sentences, and even for some math activities! Please send all hats in a bag, if possible. Thank you!

Math: We’re working on the concept of addition and learning about spatial patterns for numbers. We’re finding ways to “make” different numbers. For example, 6 can be 4 and 2, 3 and 3, 5 and 1, and 6 and 0.

If you have the opportunity, please be sure to visit our class webpage at the address listed at the top of our newsletter. The children are learning which links to use on the left side of the screen. I’ve updated the page with some pictures, as well!

As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!
