RED RIBBON Week kicks off on Wednesday! Wear RED! On Thursday, show that you have better things to do than use drugs. Wear a shirt that shows something you like to do! Friday is "Orange You Glad You're Drug-free?" Wear orange!

Field Trip: Our trip is coming up! If you have not yet returned your child’s permission slip, please do so as soon as possible. The cost of $11.00 is due on 10/25. I have already filled all of our chaperone spots and sent notes home last week about this. Thank you to those who are interested in serving as chaperones on this trip!

Library: Our class will begin going to the library on Wednesdays from here on out. Please help your child remember BOTH library books!

Parent Conferences: I have enjoyed meeting with many of you already! I look forward to sharing assessments with the rest of you and discussing our goals for the year!

100 Book Challenge: The children are becoming more independent in their reading every day! As you move onto the “new” reading logs this week, please allow your child to fill out the whole step: Step number, title, date, and level. You sign in the “coach’s” column. Remember that only one title should be written for the full 15 minutes of reading. Please sit with your child as he or she reads, so you can see how well the reading matches the text. Refer to your child’s Skills Card for words and sounds to review. Look over the strategies to see the language we are using in our classroom. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. 

Homework: Every day, please take time to review the kindergarten high frequency words and first grade words. Our goal is to be able to read these words at first sight, and spell them correctly in our day to day writing.

READING: Every day, please listen to your child read for 15 minutes, with a timer. Be sure to write ONE title on your child’s reading log and initial it.
MATH: Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Language Arts: In reading, we’re reading informational text about the farm. We are comparing the information we learn from the books we’re reading to the research we are doing online with the PebbleGo website. We are working on writing more than one sentence to inform our audience. I’m noticing that the children are doing a better job remembering to put spaces in between words and using capital letters correctly. We are trying to spell high frequency words correctly.
Math: We’re continuing with subtraction. It’s getting more difficult, but the children are working hard! We’re working on comparing objects, finding missing parts, and learning that a PART cannot be greater than the WHOLE.
