CONGRATULATIONS to Gracie and Jayli! Their reading at home has paid off! We now use the BINGO board to reward students as they read steps at home. On Fridays, we pick a winner, who then chooses a free book! These two young ladies are our first winners. Keep up the good work!

100 Book Challenge: Congratulations to Ryan, Ryleigh, Jayli, Gracie, Caleb, Rowan, AJ, Jonathan and Anna! They have already earned 100 steps! Thank you to everyone for your support of this program. Most of the children are now reading for 30 minutes at home! You can break this up into two 15 minute sessions, or try the full 30 minutes. We are reading 30 minutes in class most days!

Language Arts: We are reading so much! We’re concentrating on reading for information, giving main idea and details of stories we read, and thinking about characters. We will be reading books about insects and more Eric Carle stories. April is POETRY month, so we will be reading poems and writing some of our own.

In writing, we are working on editing and revising our writing, and putting more emphasis on spelling high frequency words correctly.

MATH: We will be learning about 3D shapes this week, such as spheres, cylinders, cones, and pyramids. We are working on problem solving with addition and subtraction and continuing to work on fact families. Please continue counting combinations of coins, including quarters! This is one of the most difficult first grade skills, but it can be easy and fun to practice!

ROCKET MATH: Thanks to all of you who are working on your facts at home! Congratulations to Jayli, Gracie, AJ, Jonathan, Ryan, Anna, and Caleb! They have reached or passed their M facts! Jayli is working on Q!

Science: We will be learning more about plants and other living things.
