Happy New Year and HELLO Winter Weather! It’s so wonderful to have everyone back at school! We’ve enjoyed sharing stories of our adventures over break, and we’re so happy to be back together. Thank goodness for the heat in our classroom! With that said, PLEASE remind your child to wear their WARMEST coats to school during these frigid temperatures. Dressing in layers is best, as it does get warm in our classroom, yet it can be chilly in other parts of the building. We’re trying our best to help each other keep up with hats, scarves, gloves and mittens. Please label your child’s clothing with his or her name when possible. Thanks!

Change for Chickens and White Christmas Food Drive: Thank you for encouraging generosity in your children! Our class collected over $40 to buy pairs of chickens for families in Asia! As a school, we collected enough for more than 30 pairs! Our class has also brought in 40 food items for families right here in Westminster.

Thank you to everyone who was able to make our class Christmas party fun! Special thanks to Mrs. and Mrs. Marcengill, Mr. and Mrs. Ogg, Mrs. Henderson, and Ms. Robin for all their help with the preparation and distribution of our goodies!

Congratulations to Josee Norris and JeCari Wiley! They have both earned over 100 Steps in our 100 Book Challenge! That’s over 25 hours of independent reading! I’m proud of their hard work! We have many others who are getting closer!

Language Arts: We are reading and writing about winter and snowmen. We’re learning new patterns for vowel sounds to help us in our reading and writing. I will be assessing students for spelling of high frequency words this week.

Math: We’re finishing topic 4, now focusing on how addition facts can help us solve subtraction facts. Thank you for your assistance with math homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
