Happy Mother’s Day! I hope that you enjoyed the Cinquain poems as much as I did!

Parent Conferences: I will begin contacting you to schedule end of the year conferences. I am working individually with the children to assess their reading levels at this time. It is so exciting to see how far they have come this year!

100 Book Challenge: Congratulations to Josee for earning 300 steps! Adeline-Ashlyn, Cheyenne and Macey reached 200. Overall, our class has done a great job keeping up with the 100 BC books. However, as a school, we are missing many! Please take some time to look under beds, in closets, and in the car for any books that belong to the school. Thanks!

Language Arts: We have finished our iMovies! We’ll be sharing them with other first grade classes on Wednesday. We’ll show them on Award’s Day, too! We will write cinquain poems about some of the animals that we have researched. This week we’ll continue to look for evidence to support our comprehension in reading fiction and non-fiction. We’ll read more folktales and fables. We are working on building our stamina to 30 minutes of focused, purposeful reading. We have started having class Spelling Bees in the room, using the high frequency word list.

SPELLING: As we near the end of the year, we will be reviewing all high frequency words. If you need another list, please let me know. We will not have official spelling homework this week, but I would like you to use this time to review words that have been tricky for your child.

Math: We’ll continue adding with tens and ones. We’ll review the Hundred Chart and ways to use it to help us with addition and subtraction. We will also work with learning the values of coins up to a quarter and adding combinations of coins. We will have math homework on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.
